IGers Birmingham Instameet at Highbury Hall

IGersBirmingham, or Instagramers of Birmingham, is the official Instagram account for the Birmingham branch of the global Instagramers movement.

The IGers are coming to Highbury on Sunday 10th June at 10am.

Join IGers at Highbury Hall to explore the historic home of one of Birmingham’s most famous statesmen, Joseph Chamberlain, before a programme of renovations gets underway to formally open the Hall to the public. Commissioned in 1878 and taking its name from the area of London where he lived as a child, Chamberlain lived here from 1880 until his death in 1914.

This Grade II Listed building retains much of its historic grandeur, despite having been used in the intervening years as a hospital annex and home for disabled soldiers, a home for the elderly and most recently as a conference and events venue. In 2016 the Chamberlain Highbury Trust took over the building from Birmingham City Council on a long leasehold. An £8 million fundraising campaign was launched in 2018 to restore the building and parkland. The plans aim to open Highbury to the public for the first time, creating an exhibition on the Chamberlain’s lives and history of the hall, a café as well as maintaining spaces for weddings and conferences. Highbury is an exceptional example of a mansion house and grounds created by a wealthy industrialist in a suburban location. It is remarkable for its Venetian Gothic architecture and its wealth of craftsmanship and decoration.
