Recruitment of Chair of Trustees

CONGRATULATIONS DAVID KIDNEY, OUR NEXT CHAIR OF THE TRUSTEES
Chamberlain Highbury Trust is delighted to announce that it has appointed David Kidney to succeed Les Sparks as the next Chair of our Board of Trustees. The Trustees made their decision on 21st April. David will take up a position as trustee on the Board of Trustees immediately and co-chair with Les until the Board’s AGM in the autumn.
David joins the Trust after having been Chief Executive of the UK’s Public Health Register (the regulator of public health professionals) for over seven years. He was previously a Member of Parliament, a Government Minister and a solicitor.David brings to the role his advocacy, leadership and community engagement skills. His networking extends across local government, parliament and public health. He is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and will promote the widest possible access to Highbury and its gardens. He strongly supports the Trust’s existing work on youth leadership education and training and will work to expand this aspect of its programme.

Welcoming David to the top post, current Chair Les Sparks says:
“I am delighted to welcome David as my eventual successor in the Trust’s leadership role. This is a key moment in the Trust’s development. As a Board of Trustees, we have very ambitious plans for the revival and renovation of Highbury and its gardens with the aim of establishing a sustainable future for the Estate with greater community access. David brings very welcome experience and great enthusiasm for pressing ahead with the Trust’s plans. I look forward to working with him as he immerses himself in the Chamberlain and Highbury heritage, learns about the Trust’s achievements and takes over the reins.”
In welcoming David, the Trust will also in due course arrange to thank current Chair Les Sparks for his six-year leadership of the Trust from its inception late in 2015, and his total commitment to transforming the fortunes of the great heritage assets in the care of The Chamberlain Highbury Trust.

David is appreciative of the skills, commitment and dedication shown by all the trustees:
“In the brief time during which I have known Les, I have seen how well served the Trust is by its knowledgeable and proactive Chair of the Trustees. I have also met other trustees and I can tell that there is a shared focus and ambition that really excites me. Over the last year, we have all been restricted in our access to heritage and cultural gems like Highbury and its gardens. I am looking forward to working conscientiously with my fellow trustees to throw open our doors to visitors once again. We have plans to attract more visitors, provide more quality experiences and extend our youth leadership education and training. I cannot wait to get started!”
